The School of the Diaconate, a 8 Hour Certification Class, certified by the Episcopal Academy Joint College of Bishops, provides a focused and rigorous formation for those called to the sacred office of deacon. Rooted in Scripture and the historic ministry of the Ecclesia, the program emphasizes the diaconate as a true kingdom office—one established by Christ to embody service, compassion, and the practical extension of God’s reign in the world. Clerics` are trained in theology, liturgy, pastoral care, and servant‑leadership, preparing them to stand at the intersection of the Church and the needs of the community. Upon completion, they are ready to be ordained into service through the laying on of hands, a solemn act that recognizes both divine calling and ecclesial commissioning, setting them apart to assist in worship, proclaim the Gospel, and lead the Church in ministries of mercy and justice.

The restoration of the diaconate as a permanent ministry in the Church at large following the decline and egregious changes in there ministry is seen as “a great and visible sign of the working of the Holy Spirit.”

Over the years, much has been written about the essential identity, role and ministry of the permanent deacon in the life of the Church. There is no doubt that the restoration of the permanent diaconate has been a source of tremendous grace and blessings for the Church.
